For deTour 2025, GROOVIDO presented A Battle of Beasts as an installation conceived specifically for the spatial and cultural context of Hong Kong.
The installation was structured around a series of digitally printed brick-built tables and seating elements, arranged to evoke the classical scenarios in Hong Kong parks. The setup deliberately blurred the boundary between furniture, architecture, and game board, transforming the exhibition space into a landscape of interaction.
Central to the setup was the act of sitting down and playing. The tables were positioned to encourage encounters, spontaneous participation, and engagement. Visitors could immediately recognize the logic of the games or learn them on the spot, activating the installation through use. In this way, the exhibition shifted from a static scenography to a social interface, where movement and play completed the work.
The installation functioned as a temporary micro-architecture within the festival, inviting different audiences: locals, international visitors, designers, and families to gather around a shared activity.
Through its setup, A Battle of Beasts proposed an exhibition format where design is not only observed but experienced collectively. The installation framed play as a universal gesture, capable of bridging cultures and generations, and positioned the exhibition space itself as a site of cultural exchange, memory, and imagination.
