Mordillo Living turns Guillermo Mordillo’s drawings into sculptural furniture.
In collaboration with Mordillo Studio, directed by Cécile Mordillo,
GROOVIDO presents Mordillo Living, a project that translates the universe of the renowned Argentine illustrator into radical sculptural furniture.
The capsule collection, featuring three pieces: an armchair, a coffee table, and a bookcase, invites users to immerse themselves in Guillermo Mordillo’s most imaginative and dreamlike dimension.
Through a meticulous process of visual deconstruction, mountains,
buildings, and landscapes extrapolated from the original drawings are reinterpreted as volumes. Afterwards, guided by a careful study of materiality, proportions, and ergonomics, these illustrated shapes are transformed into functional everyday objects.
A mountain becomes an armchair, a building becomes a bookcase, all while preserving the poetic identity of the artist’s illustrations.
For Mordillo Studio, this collaboration is not an exercise in nostalgia, but an act of continuity. Transitioning from the two-dimensionality of paper to the three-dimensionality of tangible objects, Mordillo Living interprets the underlying qualities of Guillermo Mordillo’s work through physical interaction with matter, allowing his universe to evolve within the new medium of furniture design.
